Pazhamudhir Solai Temple Madurai 

Pazhamudhir Solai is located 25 km away from Madurai. It is one of the famous temples in Madurai city. This temple is one among the Arupadaiveedu of Murugan. Pazhamudhir Solai is dedicated to Lord Murugan, Goddesses Valli, and Deivayanai. The Pazhamudhir Solai is a hilltop temple. So its location is very beautiful and attracts many tourists throughout the year.

History of Pazhamudhir Solai 

There is a famous legend related to the temple – it's said that Avvaiyar, a famous Tamil poet and a Muruga Bakthai (Murugan Devotee), came here when her knowledge was put to check by Lord Murugan, taking the shape of a little boy. it's firmly believed that this episode happened at a tree near the temple and therefore the tree is worshipped even today.

Here Murugan is worshiped alongside his consorts Valli as Iccha Shakti and Devayani as Kriya Shakti and himself as Jnana Shakti. The idol of the lord in standing posture with one face and 4 hands is kept between the idols of his consorts. The Vel (spear) of the lord made from stone is of special significance and is worshipped with an excellent veneration by devotees.

Festivals in Pazhamudhir Solai 

  1. Panguni Uthiram – It's celebrated during the month of March.
  2. Vaikasi Visakam – Celebrated during the month of Vaigaasi. Visakam is Lord Muruga’s birthday star.
  3. Kandha Sashti – Kanta Shasti Vratam is observed once a year within the month of ‘Aippasi’ (October–November) ranging from the ‘Piratamai’ to the first phase of the brightening moon.
  4. Aadi Krithigai – This is often celebrated during the month of May/June.

Timings of Pazhamudhir Solai Temple

Morning from 6 am to Evening 6 pm.
It is not safe to travel after 6 pm because the temple is located in the hill area.

  • By Bus

Many buses are available for this route. The bus number is 44 and you have to get down in Alagar Kovil to take the next bus. The Pazhamudhir Solai Temple is 3.5 km away so get another government bus to reach. It is available every 20 minutes.

  • By Rail

The Madurai junction is the main railway station in Madurai.  

  • By Road

Tourists can travel in their own cars and bikes. For two-wheelers, they charge entry fees of Rs.15.
