Arupadai Veedu Murugan Temple

The Arupadai Veedu Temple, dedicated to the Tamil God Lord Muruga, is a place of worship for all six veedus or holy homes. It is located in Besant nagar, Chennai. Swamimalai, Thiruthani, Palani, Thirupparankunram, Pazhamudircholai, and Thiruchendur are religiously significant veedus because they are mentioned in Tamil sangam literature. History of the temple

The history says, Dr. Alagappa Alagappan used to go to see the sage Kanchi Paramacharya when he was camping in Gulbarga. He asked the sage if a single granite temple could house all six abode temples of God Muruga. The sage asked him to build the temple and arranged for an acre of land near the sea in Besant Nagar, Chennai. This granite temple complex was built in Chennai with the sole purpose of providing devotees with the opportunity to worship all six Murugas in one shrine. Dr. Alagappa Alagappan began the venture with the blessings of Kanchi Mutt's Sri Sri Maha Periyavaal. The Swaamimalai praahaaram was first constructed in 1995.

In 1998, the Mahaavallabha Ganapati sannadhi, Palani and Tiruttani praakaarams were finished and consecrated. Finally, the Tiruchendur, Tirupparankundram, and Palamudirsolai sannadhis were finished in 2002, and the consecration took place on June 21, 2002, in the presence of His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. 

Temple Structure

In the comples, Swamimalai is in the northeast, Tiruchendur is in the east, Pazhamudirsolai and Tirupparankundram are in the south, Palani is in the west, and Tiruttani is in the northwest. In the centre is the Mahavallabha Ganapati temple.

This temple complex draws a large number of devotees from all over. In addition to local dignitaries, devotees from abroad have visited and worshipped in this temple, including about fifty Americans led by Guru Bhaskaran Pillai and Swamis Bodhinatha and Saravanabhavanatha of Sivaya Subramuniya Swami's Saiva Siddhanta Church of Hawaii, USA. Smt. Alamelu expressed gratitude to Lord Muruga. For bestowing this location on the seashore, stating that, unlike other locations, the seashore is ideal for meditation due to its cool and peaceful atmosphere.

Festivals and Homams

Thai Pusam, Panguni Uttiram, Aadi Krittikai, and Skanda Shashti are traditional festivals celebrated with Kavadi, Paal Kudam, and so on. Valli Tirukkalyanam at the temple has become popular among parents of marryable girls, and many of them have had their wishes granted immediately.

Many homams took place there such as Skanda Homam, Rudra Homam, and Ganapati Homam are regularly performed at the request of devotees.
