Periyar National Park Kerala
Periyar National Park is located in Thekkady Kerala. It is the most famous tourist spot in Kerala. Many people visit this place throughout the year.

History of Periyar National Park
In the 12th century, the construction of the Mullaperiyar dam started which leads to the formation of Periyar lake. After the political integration of India in 1950, the sanctuary became declared as a natural world reserve. In 1978, the park became declared as a tiger reserve, and in 1982; it received popularity as a countrywide national park.

Boat cruise at the Periyar Lake: Spotting beautiful and healthy deer near the water body is ubiquitous. Unfortunately, this facility isn't available throughout the year as heavy rainfalls cause these services to be pack up temporarily.
- The timings for the boat cruise are 7:25 AM, 9:15 AM, 11:15 AM, 1:30 PM, and 4:00 PM. Each cruise lasts for about half-hour.

2. Jeep Safari: Jeep safaris are ideal for people or small groups. Photographers especially prefer this feature to click the ferocious and majestic animals altogether their beauty and grandeur.
The full-day safari starts within the early morning hours, while the last trip starts by three within the evening.
- The timings for the night safari are 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM.
Best time to visit
Periyar national park is best to visit in the months of November to February. In the winter season, the climate will be very good and tourists can enjoy the weather also. The visitors in this season can also spot some beautiful birds, plants flowering, and many more. Another interesting activity is rafting and boat cruise.

The nearest railway station is Kottayam and Ernakulam.
The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport. From there you can catch a cab or bus to reach the Periyar national park.
